JADZIA
The Character
Name: Jadzia
Nicknames: Louve (wolf), Angel of Death, Death Bringer
Gender: Female
Age: Infinite
Race: Goddess
Rank: Goddess
Job: Goddess of Death
Personality: Jadzia is a quiet type - for the most part, she keeps to herself, preferring the company of her animal companions than those of others. However, she can't simply ignore her curiosity of the humans and their realm, often finding herself wandering there rather than anywhere else, disguised as someone she is not. Being the most hated of the gods tends to take a toll on any being, knowing you are the one to end all life, that it is your inevitable duty, and due to this Jadzia is muted, not verbally, but almost emotionally. She tends to keep herself well contained and reserved, not giving much of anything away, even to herself. She doesn't like to show emotion, and she will often use her abilities to numb those she does have, making it very hard to get to know her and see her laugh or smile. Still, while she may be serious and a little down on life and herself, she does care deeply for those she serves, the humans that seem to think they serve her instead. When someone harms those she cares about, or she sees an injustice she can't stand, she will often become far more dangerous, another reason she mutes her emotions or finds herself distractions from her eternal duty. It is far from fun to live forever as one who steals lives - no one wants to befriend death, and she'd say she's fine with that, but perhaps she's not.
History
Jadzia was not born, never a child - she simply existed, was created with the other Gods and Goddesses of being to serve a purpose. As Xantara and Heddwyn created the world and the life upon it, as Nixie and Frey controlled the seas and the weather, as Atish brought about the sun and the fighting spirit of those creatures, it was solely the job of Jadzia to take those mortal lives away. She was to be their end, and their escort. Their release, or perhaps their demise. An inevitable thing, as life must balance death, but something that infuriated the new Goddess. So, afraid, inexperienced and saddened as she, seeing her abilities as not a gift but a curse, Jadzia fled.
For a long while she hid herself away, for she did not wish to steal their lives - why not let these creatures live forever as they did, exist in long and happy lives? Why did the others need to create them to consume each other, or to grow sick, to need release, an end. Why did she have to be that end? At first, she was convinced it would be fine - without her, they could live forever and be happy and free - they did not need death, and she did not need to cause it. She wanted that to be true so strongly, that for a long time, she believed it. That was until it was implored of her to see what she had caused, what had become of the world the Gods had created.
Giving in, or perhaps determined to prove her own point, Jadzia took on her disguise for the first time since she made her decision, and saw the world in which she had ceased to exist. At first, it had seemed a good thing - her absence had given some creatures a semblance of immortality, and ways to cope with this. Yet upon closer inspection, she saw those that needed death, that required its release, that were suffering without it. They were still prone to injury and illness and all manor of terribly things - yet without her, they were unable to be released from this, and so they suffered. Torn, she tried to convince the others to help them some other way, to make it impossible for them to hurt and suffer, to not need death at all. Yet she eventually came to understand the necessity of death, and that this was inevitable. She did not like it, but she was swayed to end their suffering, and to be the Goddess she was created to be. Still, those lingering notions and the pain of taking away the lives Heddwyn gave and Xantara nurtured made her saddened by mortal creatures, and more drawn to those that lingered toward her own immortality, even if none reached it.
Powers and Abilities
Flight - Jadzia has large, black feathered wings, which allow her the ability to fly. She can go as high as she pleases and can control when and where she flies easily due to much practice. She can make these wings disappear at will.
Enhanced Traits - Better speed, strength, endurance, agility and durability. She is a very impressive creature, being a Goddess and all.
Enhanced Senses - Jadzia's hearing and sight are a lot more sensitive than that of a humans - after all her job requires it. She can see the human realm from that of the gods, and hear what is going on, so long as she focuses. When in the same realm as the creature in question, she can pick up their breathing and heartbeats, as a faltering heartbeat is a sign that someone is ready for her. She also has a more sensitive sense of smell, but not nearly as extreme, more like a predatory animal, but not as strong as a creature made for tracking by scent.
Death Aura - When active, this ability makes any creature within her vicinity feel weaker, from a slight dizziness at the slightest, to full out unconsciousness at worst. It has the ability to make plant life wilt, and if she consciously decides to (be she in her right mind or not) she can kill someone with a mere touch. Jadzia greatly hates this power, but understands its necessity, for what is life without death. This Aura causes a chilling sensation, which still occurs but is much fainter when the Aura is inactive. This ability is tied to emotion. Under very rare circumstances, she can send out a burst of this aura that can kill living creatures and turn plants black, but this would likely only happen in a state of extreme rage or terror, when she has no control over her power or emotions.
Muting - Rather than muting sound, this ability mutes her emotions as well as her Death Aura ability - she can control the degree to which this is muted. Certain abilities or circumstances may make her unable to use this power, and while she can still inactivate her Death Aura, it is much more likely to become active due to her emotions.
Transformation and Illusion - Jadzia has the ability to transform her appearance any way she wishes, however to achieve invisibility or alter the appearance of others, she must use illusionary magic instead, which means whatever she alters only appears changed. However, she can make her illusions more physical, effecting smell, touch, taste and hearing as well as just sight, and she may also focus her illusions on only one person, making for some rather interesting scenes.
Shadow Magic - This allows the power to control darkness and shadows, being more straining the more difficult the feat. She can't eliminate a light source, but she can shroud it. She can also form tangible shapes out of shadows, those these ethereal forms can't physically touch someone, instead causing a chill when passed through.
Teleportation - The ability to send herself, other creatures, or objects, to a new location. She must be able to picture this location clearly if she can't physically see it, and if she is not touching the being or object she wishes to teleport, she must be able to picture that clearly as well.
Communication and Bonding - Jadzia can communicate with any creature, no matter their language, and understand their ways of communication, as the gods created them. Certain creatures that grow attached to her may chose to bond with her - through this bond she can share her senses, give them strength, and communicate with them should she so chose - however, this also allows her the ability to control them. This bonding can make her more vulnerable as well, for while it can't kill her, killing one of her bonded creatures can temporarily hurt and weaken her, making it more difficult for her to function for a time being. This adds to her protectiveness of those bonded to her, beyond simply caring for them. Generally she only bonds with animals, though she has been known to bond with a few humanoid creatures as well. If the bonded die to her Death Aura or in certain sacred rituals, however, this gives her a period of strength and renewed energy rather than weakening her, meaning bonded creatures have been known to sacrifice themselves to her.
Necromancy - Jadzia can communicate with and control the dead, be it to summon a ghost or speak with a departed soul, or reanimate corpses. She can restore an animated corpse to good condition, but it will not have a mind of its own, and will still be pale and cold to the touch. This is not an ability she tends to use.
Foresight - Jadzia can look into the future, but only in bits and pieces. The only thing she can ever see clearly is when, where and how a being will die, so that she knows to be there to relieve their soul.
Telepathy - Jadzia can read thoughts and communicate mentally with others. She doesn't tend to enjoy invading too deeply into another's mind, but it is a good way to not only secretly communicate, but source needed memories and thoughts, even if these are lost to the subject.
Trivia
- While Jadzia can communicate with all life forms, prey are naturally scared of her unless they know it is time to die, and certain predators are naturally drawn to her. Generally black colored creatures are her preference, and a black crow, wolf, or horse can often be seen in her presence or serve as a warning of her - unless she takes such a form herself. Part of a black cat's supposed bad omen is due to this as well.
- The reason she mutes her emotions began as an attempt to mute her death aura, but wound up effecting both until she learnt to monitor these separately. When she realized her emotions spiraling out of control could also make her powers do the same, though, she began to purposefully mute them as her emotions were quite volatile at the time. She's been muting them for a very long time.
- She is surprisingly curious of the simplistic lives of mortals, or those creatures that simply live on Earth - she is especially interested, of course, in the diversity and simultaneous simplicity of Kotar.
- Jadzia actually greatly dislikes her duty - not being a Goddess, but being one of death. She does not like taking life from others, or seeing plants wilt in her wake, hence why she mutes her emotions and powers, and tends to leave her Aura inactive.
- She has a few bonded animals currently, those being two large black wolves, an adult black dragon, a black Frisian looking horse, and a crow. She also has a few other creatures that are not bonded to her but still follow her, such as a baby golden dragon that often curls around her neck, cats, snakes, other birds, or even bears. One of her bonded wolves is believed to be a were-creature that can no longer take any other form, hence it being very large compared to her other wolf, the smaller reaching her hip and the larger reaching her shoulder.
- Jadzia's human or elven disguise is similar to her natural form, with a few key differences. She has long black hair instead of short, often with some kind of plaiting and entirely absent of feathers, often instead adorned with gold chains of beads. Her eyes are blue instead of their naturally gold, and her skin is less pale than it naturally would be. Her features are a bit sharper, she has no wings, and she is often seen wearing a hooded robe of a dark blue, velvet like material, unless she would rather dress as a commoner rather than blend in with the royalty and nobility. She still has an air of mystery, and her presence or touch can cause a mild chill, though this can be masked by illusion if she really wants. In this form she gives the name Louve and shows no affinity to her Goddess self.
- It is not uncommon for Jadzia to take the form of an animal, though generally she will retain a black coloration and golden eyes unless she is trying to be very discreet and the creature she chooses does not naturally have golden eyes.
